Stress Fractures
Introduction  |  Anterior Tibial Tenosynovitis  |  Medial and Anterior Tibial Syndrome  |  Posterior Tibialis Tenosynovitis  |  Stress Fractures
These fractures are caused by a sudden increase in mileage or running on a hard surface. X-rays do not always pick this condition up but there is bone tenderness on examination. A MRI scan often the best way to investigate this condition.
Treatment
Rest for 4-6 weeks
If after 2 weeks pain has gone start partial weight bearing activities i.e. cycling, cross trainer, rowing machine
Reduce training if any pain occurs
Shoes with good shock absorption
Alternate day training on soft terrain
Shin splints
