New physios team members

We welcome two physios to  our team – Hannah Barnes and Danny Horscroft. In true family tradition both of them started their relationship with the clinic with a work experience placement. They both enjoyed their time with us so much they went onto study physiotherapy. Hannah expanded her time with us working for two years as a physiotherapy assistant as she completed her A levels. It’s great to welcome them both back as they treat all musculoskeletal injuries. Danny specialises in shoulder and tendon problems (tendinopathies) and Hannah has experience in sport injuries and Men’s Health. Hannah has worked in Australia and loves surfing, and Danny is all things football!!

New Pilates classes

Our physiotherapist Lizzie has recently started running Pilates classes. These are 1:1 sessions or no more than 4 to a class, and being physio led they combine Pilates exercises with an in depth knowledge of how the body works. Pilates is a controlled range of exercise designed to strengthen your core and improve your body awareness.

An hour's assessment costs £55 and 1:1 sessions are £40. Please contact Lizzie by email for more information

Berkshire Physiotherapy partnership with KYMIRA Sport

Reading business KYMIRA Sport, which is based at the University of Reading's Whiteknights campus, announced its partnership with Berkshire Physiotherapy in November .

The KYMIRA Sport range offers patients an alternative treatment to the infrared lamp offered at the clinic. KYMIRA clothing uses heat and energy from the human body to help people recover from sports and fitness injuries faster.

Without the technology, muscle soreness kicks in around four to five hours after your workout but the brand can stop the aches altogether. The Reading sportswear company also provides clothing to sleep in and avoid post-workout aches and pains.

KYMIRA will be offered to patients that require treatment for joint pain and muscle tissue damage but also for common sports injuries.

Össur knee brace assessment and fitting service

Berkshire Physiotherapy are proud to be working in association with Össur to supply a knee brace assessment and fitting service for a range of conditions, including Osteoarthritis (OA) and ligamentous instability, particularly for the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).

Recent research demonstrates that the Unloader One reduces pain, improves function and decreases the use of pain medication for mild to severe uni-compartmental Osteoarthritis.

For knee ligamentous injuries or instability, the CTi is an off the shelf brace that provides the ultimate combination of stability and protection. Worn by athletes from amateur – professional sports, the CTi can be used for all non-contact activities, and is particularly popular with skiers, runners, wakeboarders and racket sport players.

See our page on orthotics for more information or ring the clinic 0118 966 8601 and speak to Ryan White our Ossur specialist.

Shock Wave Treatment

The clinic now provides the latest in electrotherapy - Shock Wave Treatment. Treatment is mostly for chronic muscular and tendon disorders, and back and neck pain. Compared to conventional manual and electrotherapy therapy, SWT is extremely effective, shortens the treatment period and brings better results in long time follow-up. Shockwave therapy is very often applied in sports medicine for its soft tissue healing and regenerative effect and the recovery time after injuries can be maximally reduced. Come and be assessed by our physio team to see if Shock Wave is suitable for you.

Huge thank you to Jim and all the team

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Jim and all the team at Berkshire Physiotherapy for getting me to and through the 2014 Virgin London Marathon recently.

Whilst my finish time of 5 hours 29 minutes wasn’t going to threaten the leaders, I was just pleased to finish after suffering knee pain during training and being worried that all the training would be wasted. Jim’s calm reassurance and undoubted experience put my mind at rest and the half dozen sessions of Ultrasound, massage and K tape meant I could get the last few runs in before the big day and, more importantly, had the confidence that I could run for several hours without doing permanent damage to the knee.

I’m delighted with the treatment provided and would have no doubts in recommending Berkshire Physiotherapy to anyone I know suffering from Sports Injury or muscle related pain.

Kind regards, Tim Lowe

You can book using your PC, iPhone or Android. We would be grateful for your feedback on how our new website and online booking works for you.

The beginning of the year brought in an updated Berkshire Physio logo and a huge improvement in signage on the building and by the road. The clinic continues to grow and we now we need to provide more parking and possibly open up another treatment room. We always have the roof space to build into - subject to planning permission of course!

Part-time MSK Physio

We have an exciting new project starting in April and are looking for a part- time MSK physio – someone who is a good team player with excellent manual skills. Pilates and acupuncture would be a real advantage. This will initially for two evenings a week and occasional Saturdays. We will pay excellent rates for the right person, so please contact the clinic to speak to Jim or Carol for more details.

Hypnotherapy – how it can help you

Welcome also to Melissa Way (Positive Steps Therapy) our Hypnotherapist:
'I decided to train to be a hypnotherapist after a very positive personal experience with hypnotherapy. I saw first-hand just how life-changing it could be, and wanted to share this with other people. My background in psychology meant I could bring aspects of psychotherapy and combine these with hypnotherapy. I aim to work with individuals to deal with issues which may be holding them back in life. In some cases, people may have tried many different techniques and remedies to help them overcome a hurdle in their life. Hypnotherapy can help when we struggle to find answers elsewhere. Hypnotherapy can help with a huge range of emotional, psychological and social issues.

For example:

  • Stop Smoking
  • Fear of the dentist
  • Fear of flying
  • Self Esteem Issues
  • Reducing Stress
  • Low Mood
  • Sports performance
  • Exam Nerves
  • Anxiety
  • Weight Reduction/Management
  • Insomnia
  • Habits (e.g. Nail-biting etc)
  • Phobias and Fears
  • Anger issues
  • Relaxation
  • IBS

I'm passionate about helping people to work towards the life they want and deserve'.
